In April 2022 Sherborne Qatar Prep School underwent its periodic British Schools Overseas (BSO) Inspection and the overall judgment was that the Prep School, “Is an outstanding school”. [1] This is a fantastic achievement for everyone at the school and underlines the quality of a Sherborne Qatar education.
BSO is a voluntary inspection system established by the UK’s Department for Education for the inspection of British schools overseas. The purpose of the BSO inspection system, “Is to provide information to parents, teachers, senior managers and the school’s management on the overall quality of a school, the standard of value education it provides and its compatibility with independent schools in the United Kingdom.” Inspection reports cover all key aspects of a school, including the quality of the curriculum, teaching and learning process, the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of pupils and the school’s leadership. Sherborne Qatar Prep School was judged to be in all these key areas and, “The school’s nurturing, caring and supportive culture engenders the notion of being valued and cared for.” The inspection also considers the extent to which the British character and ethos of the school is evident in all key areas and the Prep School fully met the requirement for a strong British feel to the school.
The inspection found that there were many strengths to our Sherborne Qatar Prep School, which includes:
· “A well enriched curriculum that fully supports all pupils”
· “Consistent high quality teaching that provides memorable learning”
· A “Nurturing and caring environment that enables each and every pupil to flourish”
· The positive way that, “All pupils were appropriately supported during times of Covid restrictions”
· “High levels of engagement and enthusiasm from all staff and pupils.”
The report found that teachers have high expectations of the children, whose behavior in and out of the classroom was judged to be exemplary, with relationships between pupils and between staff and pupils described as excellent. Everything is underpinned by the aims and values of school and Learning Dispositions which are, “At the heart of an already vibrant culture, which develops the whole child, enabling pupils to flourish and fulfil their potential.” The report notes that teaching engenders infectious
