Key Stage 4 | Year 10

A WARM WELCOME
FROM THE HEAD OF YEAR 10

Year 10 is a transitional and exciting year as our pupils move from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4 curriculum to embark on their I/GCSE courses.

This is where we continue to provide exceptional pastoral support in our endeavours to build our pupils into resilient, hardworking and independent learners who are able to withstand the stress of completing large portions of demanding I/GCSE syllabi; they commence on their journey towards a successful completion of I/GCSE examinations towards the end of Year 11.

Alongside their academic journey, we pride ourselves on encouraging pupil leadership opportunities within and outside of school. The highlight for Year 10 is their work experience week. Year 10 pupils begin preparation from CV writing to application letter; to attending interviews during PSHE sessions before embarking on their work experience week in February– a unique feature, where we encourage our pupils to find a work placement to participate in the real world of employment in various companies in Qatar. Through this exposure, our pupils develop ideas about which directions their career may go and at same time they are able to showcase their personal attributes and employability skills. We are continually grateful to our parents and an array of business organisations who work in partnership with the school to offer this wonderful and enjoyable opportunity.

Year 10 pupils are organised; they persevere in all aspects of their academic and non-academic demands and they learn to accept responsibilities within and outside of their school life. They are role models for our young pupils in Key Stage 3 and they pride themselves on being hardworking; kind individuals as well as being team players.

Mr Oldridge – Head of Year 10

THE INTERNATIONAL AWARD AT SHERBORNE:

Encouraging individuals to challenge themselves, to develop their experiences and life skills, so that they grow as individuals, and become responsible young adults.

The International Award has four sections

  1. Community Service
  1. Physical Recreation
  1. Skills
  1. Adventurous Journey

Community Service is an opportunity for pupils to have a positive impact on the community. It can help pupils grow as a person by giving them the chance to:

  • Learn patience, tolerance and compassion
  • Increasing your awareness of the needs of others
  • Improve your interpersonal skills
  • Enhance your leadership qualities
  • Accept responsibility
  • Make a difference

The Skills section is where pupils work at improving an existing skill or try out something new. It can help them gain a sense of achievement and well-being.

The Physical Recreation section is there to help pupils improve their general health and fitness, as well as improve performance in a chosen sport.

The aim of the Adventurous Journey is to provide pupils with a unique, challenging and memorable experience, working with a small group. It will help to:

  • Work as part of a team
  • Enhance leadership skills
  • Improve planning and organisational skills
  • Learn to make real decisions and accept the consequences of them
