A WARM WELCOME
FROM THE HEAD OF YEAR 8
As Year 8 is midway through Key Stage 3, subject areas take this into account and start to build pupils’ skills and knowledge which become more enquiry based, incorporating more opportunities for independent learning as well as activities which allow problem solving.
In Year 8, pupils are guided through the year by their tutors and their Head of Year. The pastoral care provided in Year 8 is done through daily contact with tutors and regular assemblies with the Head of Year. Tutors are also available to individually support your children. Assemblies, as well as an excellent PSHE programme which explores issues like: Mental Health, bullying, cyberbullying and organisation, ensure that pupils in Year 8 remain happy and healthy whilst in our care.
Pupils’ enquiry based skills are continually being developed throughout the year in preparation for the all-important I/GCSEs at Key Stage 4. Teaching is also delivered by subject specialists.
Sherborne provides an extensive enrichment programme which all pupils are encouraged to participate in. Since most of the activities are free, this is an excellent way for your child to learn new skills and develop new and exciting interests. There are also activities available to help pupils develop leadership skills and independence. In addition to this, a number of the enrichment activities provide opportunities for pupils to attend trips.
