OUR HISTORY
500 Years of Outstanding British Education
Sherborne Qatar has provided a broad and excellent British education in Doha since 2009 and is a member of the Ministry of Education’s Outstanding Schools’ Programme. The school is the first overseas school developed by Sherborne School in the UK, the distinguished British independent school founded under Royal charter in 1550.
Sherborne UK works in partnership with the town’s other independent schools, Sherborne Girls’ School, Sherborne Prep School and Sherborne International College, to provide pupils with an abundance of opportunities to develop their interests and talents to the full, with an education that is designed for the 21st century.
Sherborne Qatar is a joint venture between Sherborne School and Sheikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Thani, Chairman of Sharaka Holdings. Members of the Qatari Royal Family, such as the Emir, Sheikh Tamim, have attended the International College, Sherborne and Sheikh Abdulla bin Ahmed al Thani and his wife Sheikha Amal sent some of their sons to the International College and to Sherborne School.
The vision of the Sherborne Qatar’s Board of Governors was to establish the best English language school in Qatar, offering Sherborne UK’s ethos and vision for education within the cultural environment of Qatar. Sherborne Qatar aims to bring to the country a unique educational experience which is suitable for children of expatriates working in Qatar, as well as developing the leadership skills of young Qataris, on whom the future development of the country will depend.
OUR MISSION
Sherborne Qatar’s mission is to produce:
Well-educated, well-rounded individuals
who have high aspirations and achieve their potential,
in a happy and nurturing school.
Our Mission Statement is underpinned by our Values:
Respect, Honesty, Kindness, Perseverance,
Responsibility and Teamwork.
OUR VISION
To establish a group or family of schools to support Qatar’s 2030 Vision.
We want our pupils to become positive role models, embrace positions of responsibility, develop a range of interests and be the leaders of tomorrow. Therefore, the taught curriculum is supported by opportunities to take responsibility, a host of enrichment activities, inter school and Inter House sports fixtures, music and drama.
Sherborne Qatar opened with Reception (5 year olds) to Year 6 (11 year olds) and is now a family of schools consisting of a Prep School for pupils in the UK’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to Year 6, a Senior School for Years 7 – 13 (11 to 18 year olds) and a Girls’ School with a STEM focus, which opened in 2020, for pupils in EYFS to Year 13 (3 to 18 year olds).
